There is no technical difficulty or reason for this Information not to be readily available, so my instincts tell me that this must a deliberate action / intent on the part of EA. I'm sure the illegal torrent sites would have this information immediately available in the same way torrents with legal content would have.

Now, EA technically should provide you with a backup copy if your game is still under warranty. You abuse the privalege, you lose the privalege. It's unfortunate, but especially in the past 5 years or so, piracy rates have shot up with how easy the internet makes it, and thus, companies feel they have no other option.
The usual method is to put methods in place to prevent people from making any sort of copy, for legal use or not.

Even if you legally own something, it's still illegal to download a pirate copy of it.
